CHILLY WILLY part.2

So I promised an extended version of my trip to Zagreb and the whole RHCP concert thing :) here it goes..

I went to ZG with my friend Katja early morning on the day of the concert by train. The ride wasn't too bad, even the overly talkative weird guy every train is bound to have wasn't too pushy and quite tolerable. We didn't have a hostel booked, but we knew where we wanted to stay. There is this hostel we once stayed and we wanted to return, because it's pretty much one of the best hostels I ever stayed in. I'm not saying that because it's a completely new hostel, but because it's the cleanest one I've seen so far (and I've had my share of hostel experience). Plus it really isn't expensive. So if you're planning a trip to Zagreb I highly recommend the Chill Out Hostel.
This is me, coming from the train station looking for the quickest way to the hostel.
So we got there pretty early and we had some time to kill, so of course we went through the city. The plan was just to go through and grab something to eat. Yeah, right.. You see.. it's summertime, which means 'sales'. Sales everywhere.  And being such shoe freaks as we are we just HAD to get some :) this is my catch. I love them.
this pic is taken at my home, too bad I didn't take it at the store because it was a nice store.
After we satisfied our little hearts with new purchases (but not quite empty our wallets - the shoes were actually very reasonable) we really got hungry. We stopped at this very chic restaurant / lounge / bar thing called 'Oranž' and were surprised at the prices. Again, compared to Ljubljana it was.. cheap. Like less than we're used to. I did some research about the place, but they don't seem to have their own web page, only really good reviews. We liked it a lot and the food was quite awesome :)

So we did some lounging there and realized it was time to get back to the hostel and get ready! We had some roommates who were so nice and were also headed to the concert, but we didn't go there together, because we wanted to get there early (this part is important I promise) :) But of course we had some fun getting there :)

Yes, we got hungry again so we got hotdogs. I didn't want to put Katja's picture eating online, she would probably hate me forever :)
The good thing about getting there early was it was really empty at the time. As in 'they were still putting things together' empty.

But the best thing about getting there early was the fact that we actually didn't have the best tickets (I know, term 'best' is a bit debatable - for me, front row is the best). So we didn't have the means to get to the restricted area for the 'expensive - ticket - owners' but the security guy let us in anyways. Was is due to the fact we were there at 5pm (Red Hots weren't playing until 9.30pm) or the fact we put on the most beautiful smiles we could (or the fact the concert wasn't sold out) :) but we were happy, man. Really super mega happy. Supercalifragilistic happy. We even wiggled our way to the second row.

Still we had some time to goof around, cause there still weren't many people there..
Camping in front of the stage.

Montage of my (broken) legs.. you can see the red plaster :)

After that.. the crowd started to emerge from god-knows-where.
You can see my extra white hair :)
So  the first opening act was this British group called AAAK (I'll put one youtube link later). It wasn't the best thing I've ever heard but they got us in a mood, which was ok :) I got a bit annoyed by this group of hungarian fans, but I don't blame them. They looked pretty young so I'm thinking this was their first big concert and they didn't know how to act yet. (yes, me being condescending is intentional). And then there was another opening act, which was a surprise I think. Either way I liked it. It was 2chellos. These guys are amazing. And I'm not saying that just because I used to play chello as well. They really are amazing. They hit it big when they did a cover of 'Smooth criminal' and after that you could see them everywhere. They even did a performance in Glee. So this was nice. (I just found out that the opening act for Red Hots in Warsaw were Kasabian. Damn. I love those guys. It would be just too perfect I guess).

And than.. finally.. THEY came up. The concert itself was good. And I do mean good :) I've heard a lot of critics that they don't sound as well live as they were supposed to. But frankly this was my third time going to their concert and.. well ok, the first time in Vienna about 6 years ago it was lousy. Not so much their quality but the fact they only played for 45min. That sucked! But quality wise, acoustically wise, performance wise I have no complaints. Maybe I am blinded by my eternal love for Anthony. But I doubt it :)

Here are some pics I took. I have literally 200 of them but they're mostly rubbish because firstly I don't have an awesome camera. It's pink, but that's the only bright spot about it. Secondly, I'm not the best photographer and thirdly.. you try taking pictures when bizzilon people is shoving you around.

Somewhere midway concert me and Katja just got too tired of the crowd and were completely dehydrated so we went to the back. Back of the restricted fansy area that is :) and there we could actually dance!! And chill when it was over.

After the concert we had such bad luck getting a taxi. We waited for an hour at least. And then just went straight to the hostel, took a looooong shower and collapsed in beds. Guess we're not so young anymore :)

The next morning we went to the 'Oranž' bar again, where we just sat and ate and had some cake for few hours. You can see how horribly exhausted I was.

After that we just went beck to the hostel, took a rest...
...and went back home.

I know this post is waaaaay too long. But hey, that's just my way of compensating for months of absence :)
